She started singing calypso at the early age of 10 years old, at her St Crispin Anglican Primary School in Trinidad. Since her 1999 debut Destra Garcia has won many awards including but not limited to 12 Soca Awards and four COTT awards; three of which were best female songwriter from 2004-2007 and best pan song 2006. She gained notoriety with Soca hits such as “Bonnie & Clyde”, “Carnival” featuring Machel Montano, “Free It Up” with Sean Paul, “On the Floor” with Mr Vegas, “Wine It and Saddle” on the Banjo Riddim , Beta Beti (Come Beta) featuring Shurwayne Winchester, “I Dare You”, “Max It Up”, “Soca Or Die” and many others.
